Punnetts Town Community Website

Welcome to the first Punnetts Town Village Hall newsletter for 2024.

Christmas has come and gone and February is here already. Let’s hope for a healthy, prosperous and perhaps less rainy and windy 2024.

We had a very successful Fireworks Extravaganza on December 30th. Thank you to all the brave people who ventured out on a rather windy evening; we couldn’t fire some of the rockets due to the wind! Many thanks to Jack Vockins for organising the display and to all our sponsors who made it possible.

This year Ricci Kent from Kendale Catering stepped into the breach as our previously booked caterer pulled out at the last minute. Everyone commented on the lovely food so he is already booked for this year’s event. It’s always nice to keep it local as well.

Some months ago Barclays Bank closed the Hall’s account. We were unable to pay monies in and, of course, pay bills and honour standing orders. This was very frustrating for our Treasurer, who made numerous phone calls to re-open the account and who actually paid one mortgage payment using her own money. The account has now been re-opened and thanks are due to our Treasurer for all her hard work and perseverance. On the subject of money, we have had to put up the Hall hire charges by a small amount due to increased costs.

Country Lunches

Country Lunches were started nearly 30 years ago by Ann Kenward, the Vicar’s wife from All Saints, Old Heathfield, and continues today. They meet on alternate Wednesdays at 12 noon at Punnetts Town Village Hall. Their teams of volunteers provide a two course home-cooked lunch, followed by tea or coffee for £5. Good company and a friendly welcome guaranteed and new clients are very welcome. To book call Annabel Williams: 07808 000615 or Julie Langdon: 01435 863690.

For those without their own transport, Age Concern Heathfield run fully accessible buses to the lunches and currently there are some spaces available. A donation of £4 is suggested to help cover costs.

County Lunches are also looking for new volunteers to help with running the lunches. Duties include preparing and cooking food, serving the clients and clearing away. For more information, please contact Annabel or Julie.
